Yellow Vein Mosaic
Bhendi Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (begomovirus)
Symptoms
A network of leaf veins turns bright yellow while the interveinal tissue stays green, giving a yellow-net appearance. Affected plants are stunted and pods become small, pale and unmarketable.
Prevention
Plant resistant or tolerant varieties and control the whitefly vector early. Rogue out infected plants promptly and use reflective mulch to deter whiteflies.
Treatment
Organic
There is no cure for the virus; manage the whitefly vector with neem oil and yellow sticky traps. Remove and destroy infected plants to reduce the virus reservoir.
Chemical (last resort)
No chemical cures the virus. Suppress whitefly with imidacloprid or spiromesifen, rotating groups to prevent resistance, and observe PHI on edible pods.
